Haiti Donation

Working with the Adventist Development Relief Agency and Crocs’ donation partner, Brothers Brother Foundation, 566 boxes of Crocs were distributed in Haiti earlier this month.

ADRA has focused its Non-Food Item (NFI) Distributions in the commune of Carrefour, Port-au-Prince  to groups such as Thor, Fraternité, La Famille Réunie, and Eric Jean Baptiste. In coordination with other non-government organizations working and managing internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in this commune, ADRA has chosen to work in over 17 camps in Carrefour. These shoes will help protect the feet of camp inhabitants from being injured and infected by sharp cans. IDP camps are often littered with a lot of garbage and debris, and the NFI Team felt that giving shoes to protect the feet from objects on the ground, would promote better hygiene. A variety of sizes of sandals were given to each family in an attempt to reach all ages.

This was just the beginning of the distribution of the 80,000 pairs that Crocs sentto Haiti after the January earthquake. More donations will be distributed by UNICEF and Global Aid Network by the end of July.

Matt Jenkins has kicked off his shoes, but he’s hardly relaxing.

He’s running barefoot. Across the state.

Jenkins, 29, works at an after-school program for the Western Youth Network in Boone that provides mentoring and summer programs to kids in the area. For the second year in a row, Jenkins, a long-distance runner who prefers to run without shoes, has decided to undertake a run to raise awareness about state budget cuts to programs that affect young people.

Last year, Jenkins ran to different sites around Watauga on three consecutive Sundays for a total of 108 miles.

“After that, I was being sarcastic and said, ‘Next year, I’m going to run across the state.’ And people were like, ‘OK. That’s a good idea,'” Jenkins said.

Jenkins, who says that his idea of a good time is to run five marathons in five days, was game for the challenge.

He was scheduled to take off from Manteo this morning on a 760-mile journey that he estimates will take four weeks. He plans to run about 30 miles a day, and will store his gear, which will be not much more than a pair of Crocs, a bar of soap, a lightweight tent, food and water, in a pack he’ll carry on his back or a jogging stroller that he will push.

Jenkins laughed when asked about any kind of support team that might accompany him.

“I’m totally winging it,” he said. “I have a tentative schedule of how far I’m running each day, but I have no idea how I’m going to feel on Day 1, much less how I will feel on Day 20.”

Jenkins’ feet are callused after years of running barefoot, so he can handle hot pavement and pebbles for the most part. However, he will take a break during the heat of the day if he comes across any freshly laid asphalt.

Jenkins hopes to raise $15,000 for an after-school program that lost its state financing two years ago. It is the only after-school program for middle-school youngsters in Watauga County. Jenkins said he hopes that people will read about his run and either donate to his organization or consider donating to their community’s youth programs. “All the kids are tracking him,” said Angela McMann, who works with Jenkins at the Western Youth Network. “They know he’s into this and does this barefoot. We all think he’s a little nuts about running barefoot with the alligators in Manteo and the heat, but we’re thankful to have someone who wants to show how much he cares.”

Top 10 Finalists at The St. Julien Hotel

As a marketing intern for Crocs this summer, I had the privilege of helping out with the Vitamin C Ambassadors Program this past week. The 10 finalists came to Boulder, Colorado for an exciting few days. Preceding their arrival, I was so nervous for no practical reason, maybe it was just excitement, that I calmed my nerves by memorizing everyone names with a simple description. Chris the pool floater, Kelsey the jumper, Lorraine the runner, and Kat the first pitch lady were some of the nick names I came up with based on their profiles.

I met everyone Wednesday night at the savvy St. Julien Hotel where we enjoyed beverages and appetizers. After mingling for a few hours, we went over the itinerary and a few brave ambassadors strolled around Pearl Street, where I aided as a tour guide. It was no surprise that the highlight of Pearl Street was the Crocs store. Looking rather majestic that night, the new Crocs store was shortly surrounded by six or so Crocs lovers all wearing Crocs, cameras in-hand. I had forgotten my camera but I sure would have liked to take pictures of the madness – both humorous and inspiring.

The next day began sharply at 9am in the Crocs store’s conference room. Under lock and key, the ambassadors and I got a real treat – a preview of the product lines for both fall/holiday 2010 and spring/summer 2011! Everyone was “wowed,” so be sure to stay tuned for the new collections. Everyone’s excitement turned to hunger and we enjoyed fabulous tapas at The Med. (There was no shortage of great food on this trip.) After lunch, the ambassadors were assigned a challenge, and I was asked to participate. We were instructed to go visit a local hot spot and write a sample blog. Mine, probably being the least creative, reflected on my school pride and spirit. It was a trip to my school’s football stadium, Folsom Field. GO BUFFS! Folsom field is also the site where I purchased my first pair of Crocs, CU buffalo Beach Crocs. Everyone shared their experiences that night at Centro, a Mexican restaurant on Pearl Street. Chris, Amy, Jon and I shared lobster nachos.

The last day arrived and we all met up at the Tea House for some breakfast. Well all except for one. I had to rescue Amy a good twenty blocks away. Unfortunately, she walked right past the Tea House and kept on walking. Was it her comfy Crocs? The first half of the day was spent getting everyone to their one-on-one interviews, photos, and video blogs in a timely fashion. Sorry guys for being a bit frazzled with time restrictions. And, thank you to my dearest Farrah Crocs for keeping my feet sore-free. We then said our farewells over root beer floats at the West End Tavern with more food. What a great couple of days. Good luck to the 10 finalists. I already miss you all!

The people have spoken! The people on Facebook, that is. Voting ended late last week for our Crocs Ambassador Contest, which has been hosted on our Facebook fan page. More than 200 entries were submitted, the top 15 were selected, and then those with the most votes were selected to be in the Top 10.

We’ve talked a little about these Crocs Ambassadors here and there, but now we are really close to the selection of the Top 5 winners. These Ambassadors will be a huge part of this website and the online community we are calling, Vitamin C. They will be sharing their lives, their stories and and their love of Crocs shoes with you. And, we are hoping that you’ll do the same, in return.

The Top 10 will be headed out to Boulder, Colorado next week so that we can get a better sense of who these individuals are and which five will represent the Crocs community best, while providing engaging content for you, the consumer and fan. At the end of the month, on July 29th, we will announce the five winners and, at the same time, we will unveil our NEW corporate website and all of its splendor. Exciting!

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Crocs Ambassador contest. We know that we have the best fans and your enthusiasm for our shoes, our brand and one another is definitely contagious.
